Mark Wisner will stand trial this April.

A trial date has been set for a former physician assistant who allegedly sexually abused patients at a Leavenworth Veterans Affairs (VA) medical center.

Mark Wisner’s trial has been set for April 3, 2017, after nearly a year of delays from his defense team with several continuances,41 Action Newsreported.

The defense team asked for a continuance again on Tuesday, citing that they needed time to get additional documents from the VA. However, the Leavenworth county judge denied the continuance saying, “There could be a never ending case in need for records [and] at some point, we need finality in this case.”

Wisner is facing multiple charges, including sexual batter and criminal felony sodomy. The alleged abused occurred from 2012 to 2014, and an affidavit included a confession from Wisner stating he performed unnecessary genital exams and overprescribed opiates.

In an interview with41 Action News, 1 victim who chose to remain anonymous, said that he reported Wisner to officials more than 3 years ago and that the set trial date was encouraging.

“It’s hard for me to move on with my life until I have some sort of conclusion and for the judge to take that into consideration today and to rule against the defense, that was great,” the army veteran told41 Action News.
